Installation
How to Install a Theme
• Purchase a W-Portfolio theme/theme package and download with the link we email to you.
• Open the downloaded .zip file and extract the theme’s root folder.
• Upload the theme folder with FTP to the yourdomain.com/wp-content/themes/ folder in WordPress.
• Log into your Admin account on your WordPress.
• Locate the Appearance tab, open it and click Themes.
• Activate your W-Portfolio theme.
Personalize
Change Title and Copyright
Themes: All
• Log in and go to Settings > General and change the Site Title. This will effect the name in the layout, the ‘title’ tag and the copyright information.
Menus
Sortfolio’s Automatic Menus
Themes: Sortfolio 1, Sortfolio 2
• Sortfolio themes automatically generate 2 dropdown menus, one that lists Categories and one that lists Pages.
Quick Setup
Themes: All
• Log in and go to Appearance > Menus and create two menus called Projects and Pages and add make sure to set the Theme Locations accordingly… i.e. create a menu called Projects and add it to the Projects theme location and press Save.
Editing Menus
Themes: All
• Add items to the menus by checking the item in the module and clicking Add to Menu in the WordPress custom menu system.
Posts
Add a New Post
Themes: All
• Log in and go to Posts > Add New
Add Images to Post
Themes: All
• Create a post and add images to your post by clicking the button to the right of Upload/Insert text in your post editor.
• Select ‘Browse’ to find images of your work on your computer, they will be resized according to the grid, up to 600px wide unless you customize the CSS to allow larger.
• Once the files finish uploading (make sure they are under 2MB in size) you can click the Show text the right of the featured image you want to use and click ‘Use as featured image’ below the image.
• IMPORTANT NOTE: You don’t need to click ‘Insert Into Post’ or choose any options for sizing the image… after you have uploaded an image it automatically adds it to the images that are displayed at the appropriate size.
Pages
Add a New Page
Themes: All
• Log in and go to Pages > Add New
Add Images to Page
Themes: All
• Insert images for pages directly into the main text area along with your text and format it accordingly.
Thumbnails
Easy Resize Thumbnails (SELECT THEMES ONLY)
Themes: W–Portfolio 4, W–Modfolio, W–Minfolio, W–Artfolio
• Log in and go to Settings > Media and set the “Thumbnails” dimensions to the max-height and max-width you prefer.
Varying Thumbnails (SELECT THEMES ONLY)
Themes: W–Portfolio 1, W–Portfolio 1.2, Sortfolio 1
• Tagging a post with 2008 will result in a featured image that is 150×100 pixels.
• Tagging a post with 2009 will result in a featured image that is 300×187 pixels.
• Tagging a post with 2010 or higher will result in a featured image that is 600×450 pixels.
Video
Embedding Youtube
Themes: W–Portfolio 4, W–Modfolio, W–Minfolio, W–Artfolio
• Log in and Add or Edit the post you want to add video to.
• Make sure you can see Custom Fields by click the “Screen Options” button in the upper right corner of the WordPress Admin layout and checking the box Custom Fields.
• Click on Add Custom Field
• In the “Name” textbox type in the word Youtube.
• In the “Value” textbox type in the ID of the video. It will be the number at the end of the URL. For Youtube it is the characters that come after ‘youtube.com/watch?v=’ so if your video’s URL was youtube.com/watch?v=1a2a3a4a you would put ’1a2a3a4a’ in the “Value” textbox.
Embedding Vimeo
Themes: W–Portfolio 4, W–Modfolio, W–Minfolio, W–Artfolio
• Log in and Add or Edit the post you want to add video to.
• Make sure you can see Custom Fields by click the “Screen Options” button in the upper right corner of the WordPress Admin layout and checking the box Custom Fields.
• Click on Add Custom Field
• In the “Name” textbox type in the word Vimeo.
• In the “Value” textbox type in the ID of the video. It will be the number at the end of the URL. For Vimeo it is the characters that come after ‘vimeo.com/’ so if your video’s URL was vimeo.com/12345 you would put ’12345′ in the “Value” textbox.
Featured Posts
Set Featured Posts (SELECT THEMES ONLY)
Theme: W–Portfolio 2
• Add a Tag to a post called “Featured” and a post will show up tagged with a “Featured” marker on W–Portfolio 2
Search
Integrated Search (SELECT THEMES ONLY)
Themes: All except Modfolio
• Select Themes have search integrated and ready to rock!
